Earlier I said that I wanted to give something back to people who supported Scrandle through Ko-Fi. Today I’m launching that system.
Logins are intended to be quite simple and email-based. Here’s what you get as of now:
- Access to Super Scrandle (I’ll keep it open for everyone for this week, then it’s supporters-only)
- Stats/saves syncing across devices
- Some advanced stats – the server can do some extra analysis of your stats now that they’re synced
- Developer commentary for Fridays
- More stuff detailed later
This is not a subscription system. Donating the minimum gets you, essentially, lifetime access. I tried to think about what I would want personally as a player – and I would balk at signing up for yet another recurring payment, and grudge the whole endeavour once I forget to cancel, but “pay a fiver towards server costs and get some fun extras” would make sense to me. I would certainly say there’s a fivers’ worth of enjoyment in the game.
Once I’m happy that this system is working well for everyone, I am planning a “CD key” system where those supporting over the minimum get codes to give their friends access to this system too. This system is also part of the bedrock for multiplayer/social features that I’m planning out, so it makes sense to cast a fairly wide net.
The Super Scrandle save isn’t synced yet, as I want to rework how that’s all done.
I plan to continually add features to this supporter system as long as I think there’s demand. Maybe I’ll run Ko-Fi polls to see what people want the most.
Scrandle remains very popular. Running it is fun, but it takes a fair amount of my time. This is the current plan for how the site will be supported over time. I hope this makes sense to you, and I hope you’ll see fit to send me some server/rent/scran money.
